Formed in 2000 in San Diego (California), As I Lay Dying has become a heavyweight of the extreme metal scene in the USA, where it is highly regarded. Despite their modest beginnings with Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (2001) and Frail Words Collapse (2003), this metalcore benchmark is still going strong. As I Lay Dying made its debut with Shadows Are Security (2005), before exploding with the excellent An Ocean Between Us (2007) and The Powerless Rise (2010). These last two albums were among the top ten best-selling albums in the U.S. at the time of their release. Buoyed by this reputation, As I Lay Dying delivers Awakened in September 2012, worthy of its predecessors.
