Ayra Starr

Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigde, better known by her stage name Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer born on June 14, 2002 in Cotonou, Benin. She spent her childhood there before moving with her family to Lagos. Singing in a choir and composing for pleasure, the student of international relations and political science became a model at the age of 16. But it was for her singing talents, which she displayed through videos on Instagram, notably the one in which she unveiled her track "Damage", that she was spotted. She was signed by Mavin Records in 2019. In the studio, she records her first homonymous EP, imbued with RnB, soul and afropop, unveiled in 2021. It opens with the single "Away". The same year also saw the release of her first mixtape, 19 & Dangerous Album, accompanied by a deluxe version the following year. This album is accompanied by the single release of "Bloody Samaritan" in July 2021. It also features collaborations with FousheƩ and CKay. The album reaches number seven in the Nigerian best-seller chart. At the end of 2022, the singer returned with "Rush" , which accompanied the deluxe reissue of 19 & Dangerous and became an international success, thanks to its virality on social networks. The song reached number seven in the French charts, number six in South Africa and number 24 in the UK. Thanks to this track, Ayra Starr is nominated for Best African Music Performance at the Grammy Awards. In October 2023, the singer was invited by David Guetta to sing alongside Lil Durk on his track "Big FU". She released the single "Commas" in February 2024, a prelude to the studio album The Year I Turned 21 , released in May. The album reached number 195 on the Billboard charts, making her the first Nigerian artist to do so. The album also reached number 72 in France.
