Singer and actress Azlina Aziz was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on June 6, 1962. She is best-known as an actress although she recorded a series of nine albums between 1981 and 1990. The daughter of singing-acting duo Normadiah and Aziz Jaafar, she began her career as a dancer in a troupe that was led by her mother. Towards the end of the 1970s, she began making TV appearances and public performances with her parents as well as appearing in several of their films. As an actress, she broke out on her own in 1979 when she appeared in the film Prebet Lapok. She made her singing debut in the film Dunia Ana Yang Punya (1979) and appeared on the film’s soundtrack. Signing to WEA Records, Azlina Aziz issued her debut album, Kau Pergi Jua in 1981 and followed that with a series of releases including Malu-Malu Sayang (1981), Bayang-Byang (1983), Duniaku (1984), Mencari Mimpi (1986), Seikhlas Mana Hatimu (1987), and Di Sini buat Pertama Kali (1990). Some of her best-known songs include “Wajahmu Di Mana-Mana,” “Duniaku,” “Malu-malu Sayang,” “Aku Dan Kesepian,” “Kau Pergi Jua,” “Mencari Mimpi,” “Wajah Siapa Di Hatimu,” and “Indahnya Beraya Di Desa.” After a decade of recording, Azlina Aziz turned her attention back to acting and left her recording career behind. However, there have been several compilations released of her classic recordings.
