Influenced by the grunge movement, American band Balance and Company formed in 2007 around singer and guitarist Jon Simmons, with Andy Slaymaker and Erik Petersen on guitars, Matt Warner on bass and Bailey Van Ellis on drums. Hailing from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, the band broke away from its original influences and moved towards post-hardcore and alternative emo, more contemporary styles of alternative rock. She subsequently released two EPs, I Just Want to Be Pure (2008) and Only Boundaries (2009), then a third shared with the band Tigers Jaw in 2010, before unveiling her debut album Separation in 2011. However, it's with the following album, The Things We Think We're Missing (2013), that his audience expands, taking him to number 51 in the US charts. After several years with the independent label No Sleep Records, Vagrant Records released their third album Light We Made (2016), produced by Will Yip and incorporating electronic sounds that somewhat confused the band's loyal fans, who announced their break-up in 2019. Surprisingly returning in 2023 with drummer Dennis Wilson, Balance and Company reunited with Will Yip to record With You in Spirit (2024), released on his own Memory label.
