Norwegian jazz group Beady Belle were formed in 1999. Singer Beate Lech originally began working on a solo record for Jazzland Records. Receiving help from her husband Marius Reksjø, the project became a duet under the name of Beady Belle. The record, eventually put out in 2001, was preceded by the singles 'Ghosts' and 'Lose and Win'. Titled 'Home', the album launched them all over Europe as well as into Australia, Canada and Japan. Their second album, 'cewbeagappic', was released in 2002. They followed it with 'Closer' (2005) and the addition of drummer Erik Holm before going out on tour across Europe as support act for Jamie Cullum. In an interview with BBC presenter Trevor Nelson, American soul singer Indie.Arie declared her love for Beady Belle. Following the declaration, the band got in touch with the singer and together they recorded 'Self-Fulfilling' which they featured on their fourth album, 'Belvedere' (2008). The album, and further collaborations with Jamie Cullum, resulted in their breakthrough into their native Norway. Their fifth album, 'At Welding Bridge', was released in 2010 with their sixth, 'Cricklewood Broadway', in 2013. Based on the novel 'White Teeth' by Zadie Smith, the concept album follows the lives of three London familes from different backgrounds and cultures. The group disbanded in 2015, although Beate Lech continued to record as a solo artist.
