Praised for her luxurious voice and skilful performances on the guitar and other stringed instruments, American singer-songwriter Becca Stevens has collaborated with many artists in a mix of jazz, folk, R&B, funk and classical influences. She was a member of the band Tillery and then formed The Becca Stevens Band which released three recordings including 'Perfect Animal', which peaked at number 22 on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums Chart in 2015. Her first release under her own name, 'Regina' in 2017, earned her Downbeat Magazine's Best Rising-Star Female Vocalist award. Born to a musical family in North Carolina, she performed with their band, The Tune Mammals and spent a year in a touring production of 'The Secret Garden' when she was ten. She learned to play classical guitar as a teenager, performed at local venues and studied at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York. She has sung with Travis Sullivan's Björkestra, collaborated with jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti, performed in Carnegie Hall with jazz pianist Brad Meldau and toured with drummer Eric Harland's all-star band. She has worked with many other artists and following the debut Becca Stevens Band album 'Tea Bye Sea' in 2008, she joined singer Heather Masse, accordion player Peter Rendle and clarinetist Sam Sadigursky for the 2010 album 'The Words Project'. She was commissioned by the Melodia Women's Choir in New York to write a choral composition, 'Soli Deo Gloria', composed for San Diego's Mainly Mozart series and she is a featured singer and composer in Timo Andres's 'Work Songs', which debuted in New York's Ecstatic Music Festival. She teaches at the Manhattan School of Music and The New School and also in Europe. Her album 'Regina', inspired by rumination on Queen Elizabeth I, features Michael League aka Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier, Laura Mvula and David Crosby.
