Born in Los Angeles on December 18, 2001, into a family of actors and musicians, Billie Eilish (full name Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell) began singing in a choir at eight years old. Encouraged by her brother Finneas O'Connell, a member of the band The Slightlys, she created her first song demos, including "Ocean Eyes" (2016). Released under the Interscope label, "Ocean Eyes" charted globally, hitting the top 40 in New Zealand. The track was followed by other singles such as "Bellyache" and "Bored," which was featured in the series 13 Reasons Why. The EP Don't Smile at Me came out in the summer of 2017, climbing to number 14 on the US charts and into the top 10 in six other countries. The following year, Eilish recorded a new song for the second season of the same series: the duet "Lovely" with singer Khalid, which became an international success. Two tours and additional tracks followed and in 2019, Eilish released her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019). It topped the US Billboard 200, as well as the charts in Australia, Canada, the UK, and several other countries. This global success was fuelled by chart-topping singles "When the Party's Over", "Bury a Friend," "Wish You Were Gay,” "Everything I Wanted," and "Bad Guy," her first Number 1 hit. In 2020, the song "No Time to Die," co-written with her brother, served as the theme for the 25th James Bond film of the same name. It reached Number 1 in the UK, number 2 in Australia and peaked at 16 in the US. Her second album, Happier than Ever, released in the summer of 2021, also topped the UK charts, spawning the singles "Therefore I Am"(which went to number 2 in the UK and US) and "My Future" (landing at number 7 in the UK and 6 in the US). Two years later, Eilish contributed to the soundtrack of the blockbuster film Barbie with the track "What Was I Made For?" earning her a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. She released her critically acclaimed third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, in May 2024, featuring synth-pop hit “Lunch.”
