Björn Meyer

Born in Stockholm on September 5, 1985, Björn Meyer took piano lessons as a child and learned to play the trumpet at school, while participating in a children's choir. In his teens, he played guitar in punk bands, before turning to electric bass at the age of eighteen, when he completed his studies in computer science and physics. After making his professional debut in 1989, he moved to Switzerland in 1996, where he helped form the Swedish jazz trio Bazar Bla, with Johan Hedin and Fredrik Gille. Also a session musician, Bjôrn Meyer joins the Snag quartet (1998) and accompanies other artists on the Tonus-Music label. From 2001 to 2012, the bassist plays in Swiss pianist Nik Bärtsch's quartet, Nik Bärtsch's Ronin, and accompanies oud player Anouar Brahem. In 2013, he founded the Amiira trio with Klaus Gesing and Samuel Rohrer, and recorded the homonymous album released in 2016. Still a member of Bazar Bla, Björn Meyer released his first solo album Provenance for the ECM label in 2017.
