Blandine Verlet, who died aged 76 on 30th December 2018, was a French harpsichord player who achieved international acclaim for her concerts, recordings and teaching over a long career. Born in Paris, she graduated from the Conservatoire de Paris and did further study at the Academy of Siena and Yale University. Known for her subtle but often daring interpretations of Bach's 'Goldberg Variations' and works by French composer Louis Couperin, she played frequently on an 18th century harpsichord made by Henry Hemsch. Her recordings include 'Michel de la Barre: Pieces pour la Flute Treversiere' (1981) with flautist Stephen Preston, theorbo player Hopkinson Smith and violist Jordi Savall, 'Mozart: 16 Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord' (1993) with violinist GĂ©rard Poulet and several recordings of pieces by Couperin. A six-disc box set titled Blandine Verlet Plays Bach was released in 2000.
