Taking their name from a Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire musical, Blood Red Shoes were formed by guitarist Laura-Mary Carter and drummer Steven Ansell in 2004 after discovering a mutual love of grunge, punk and US alternative rock. Rising from Brighton's vibrant music scene, they established a distinctive musical style built around spiky, alternative, indie thrashes, fuelled by sugar pop vocals and songs of adolescent frustrations. After years touring small venues and releasing singles through independent labels, they signed with Mercury for their well-received debut album Box Of Secrets (2008). Full of dynamic riffs and angsty vitriol, their bouncy energy developed into a heavier, beefier sound on second album Fire Like This (2010) as the band went on to support Rage Against The Machine, Panic At The Disco and Siouxsie & the Banshees. Renowned for touring relentlessly, they played on the main stage at the 2012 Reading/Leeds festival after releasing their most bombastic and ambitious album to date In Time To Voices (2012).
