Boni Gnahoré

Boni Gnahoré, a musician born in Côte d'Ivoire, began his artistic career in 1980. He worked in turn as an actor, singer and musician. He joined the Ki-Yi M'Bock company founded by Werewere Liking in the village of Ki-Yi, near Abidjan. He became a master drummer in 1989, mastering the ziglibithy style of Bété country, to which he added numerous influences such as Mandingo music, Congolese rumba and more Western styles like funk and pop. That same year, he designed the music for "Sundjata, l'épopée Manding" for Strasbourg's "Amoros et Augustin" company, taking part as musician and singer. In 1995, he helped design the opera Un Touareg s'est marié à une Pygmée, supervising the percussion. He went on to make a name for himself around the world with a series of world tours. In 1997, he formed the group Le Chœur Attoungblan within the Ki-Yi village. With this group, he recorded the album Pedou in 1999 and Africa Non Stop in 2004. Nine years later, he finalized the album Kumbele Kumbele in 2012. It features the participation of his daughter, Dobet Gnahoré, who has followed in her father's footsteps, becoming a singer, dancer and musician.
