The R&B and hip-hop artist Brooke Valentine was born Kanesha Brookes in Houston, Texas in 1984. Brookes began her professional career in the girl band Best Kept Secret until starting a solo career in 2004. She released her debut single 'Girlfight' in 2005 and the song, which featured Outkast's Antwan Patton and rapper Lil John, went on to become an international hit charting in the American, Australian, European and UK charts. The success of the single helped launch her critically-acclaimed debut album 'Chain Letter'. Since the early success of 'Girlfight' Brooke's musical career has been inconsistent. As her musical career began to take off she gave birth to a young son who was diagnosed with a serious medical condition and caring for him has been the focus of her attention. Despite the distraction caused by her commitment to her family, Brookes has built a successful career as a model and actress. Her last record release was the EP 'Love Letters' which she released in 2013.
