BSS

Although formed as a spinoff of the K-pop boy band Seventeen, BSS quickly developed an audience of its own, topping the South Korean charts with the group's debut, Second Wind, and reaching Number 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 with the single "Fighting." The group was launched in 2018 in Seoul, South Korea. Members Boo Seung-kwan, Lee Seokmin (also known as "DK"), and Kwon Soonyoung (also known as "Hoshi") had performed with Seventeen since 2015, earning Number 1 hits with the albums Love & Letter and Teen, Age. Together, they performed the song "Just Do It" at a Seventeen fan convention in early 2018, intending the performance to be a one-off event. Due to enthusiastic response from Seventeen's fans, the three musicians officially formed BSS as a sub-unit of Seventeen and released a studio version of "Just Do It" on March 21, 2018. The song stalled at number 167 on the Circle Digital Chart in South Korea, and BSS' members focused their attention on Seventeen for several years before returning in 2023 with BSS' first single album, Second Wind. The record was a hit, reaching Number 1 in South Korea (where it sold 478,000 copies during its first day of availability and was soon certified double-platinum) and number 3 in Japan. All three members contributed to the writing of the album's hit song, "Fighting," which reached Number 1 in Japan and number 5 in South Korea. By the time 2023 came to a close, BSS had won multiple awards for both the song and its accompanying album, including the "Grand Prize" at the Asia Music Awards, "Millions' Top 10 Artists" at the Melon Music Awards, and "Best Collaboration" at the Asian Pop Awards.
