Cacho Castaña

Humberto Vicente Castagna, better known by his stage name Cacho Castaña, was an iconic Argentine singer, songwriter, pianist, and actor. He was born on June 11, 1942, in Buenos Aires. He began his career as a pianist in various tango groups and later transitioned into singing. He released his debut album, Cacho Castaña, in 1972. This was followed by releases like Cara de Tramposo (1975) and La Historia del Ladrón (1976), which helped put his name on the map as a bolero singer. In 1978, he scored a huge hit with the track "Para Vivir un Gran Amor" from the album of the same name, establishing definitively as an important figure in the Argentine music scene. In 1979, he released Lo Llaman el Matador, which became another milestone in his career thanks to the title track and "Un Divagante, Un Aventurero." During the 1980s, Cacho Castaña continued to release successful albums, including Definitivamente (1981) and Estoy Cambiando (1983) . His later albums, such as Soy un Tango (1994) and Cacho de Buenos Aires (1998), extended his relevance in Argentine music. In 2004, his show Soy un Tango won the Premio Estrella de Mar for Best Individual Performance. In 2008, he was declared an Illustrious Citizen by the Buenos Aires Legislature. Cacho Castaña also contributed to film and television, composing music and acting in various roles. In 2008, he co-wrote "Por Amor a Vos" with Valeria Lynch, which became the theme song for the TV show of the same name. Over the following decade, he continued performing and recording, releasing popular LPs such as Más Atorrante Que Nunca (2010), Aquellos Viejos Amores (2013), Vida de Artista (2016), and Distinto (2018). Cacho Castaña passed away on October 15, 2019, at the age of 77.
