DJ, producer, composer and singer, Scotland's Calvin Harris has made a name for himself worldwide with his neo-disco house hits. Born in Dumfries on January 17, 1984, Adam Charles Wiles began recording demos in his bedroom in 1999, followed by singles in 2002 under the name Stouffer, before adopting the stage name Calvin Harris. After hitting the UK charts with "Acceptable in the 80s" (No. 10) and "The Girls" (No. 3), he produced his debut album I Created Disco from scratch, which reached No. 8 in 2007, followed two years later by his first No. 1, "I'm Not Alone", and "Ready for the Weekend" (No. 3), the title track of the album, which also reached No. 1. His electronic, danceable style breaks into the US market with the album 18 Months (No.1 in the UK, No.19 on the Billboard 200), whose eight successive singles take over the UK top 10 between 2011 and 2013, including No.1 "Sweet Nothing" performed by Florence Welch, No.2 "Bounce" sung by Kelis, "Feel So Close", "Let's Go" by Ne-Yo and "We'll Be Coming Back" by Example. This record, which surpassed Michael Jackson, was succeeded by Motion (No. 2 in the UK, No. 5 in the USA), which in 2014 had three number ones: "Under Control" with Alesso and Hurts, "Summer" and "Blame" with John Newman. Producer or composer for Kylie Minogue, Dizzee Rascal, The Ting Tings, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, The Scissor Sisters, Pitbull, Rita Ora and The Weeknd, Calvin Harris scores a handful of hits such as "This Is What You Came For" (with Rihanna, No.2) or "My Way" (No.4), before the 2017 release of Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 (No.2 on both sides of the Atlantic), featuring contributions from Frank Ocean and Migos, Young Thug, Pharrell Williams and Ariana Grande, Future and Khalid, Katy Perry, Kehlani and Lil Yachty. He collaborates with Dua Lipa, Sam Smith and Benny Blanco, then Rag'n'Bone Man on No.2 "Giant" (2019) and releases five EPs under the name Love Generator in 2020-2021. In 2022, the follow-up Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 (No.5 in the UK) is released, featuring a host of guests including Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, Busta Rhymes, Jorja Smith and Pharrell Williams. The next album, 96 Months, takes the form of a compilation, bringing together seventeen tracks released off-album between 2015 and 2024, including the latest hits "Miracle" and "Free" with Ellie Goulding, "Desire" with Sam Smith and "Lovers in a Past Life" with Rag'n'Bone Man.
