Carlos Alberto Sánchez Uriol, better known by his stage name Carlos Sadness, is a Spanish singer-songwriter, author, and artist. He was born on March 31, 1987, in Barcelona, Catalonia. Initially known as Shinoflow, his early career from 2001 to 2010 saw him exploring underground music scenes, sharing his songs on Myspace, and gaining significant online traction. This digital presence led to recognition by media and record labels. His music career took a pivotal turn when he worked with producer Fernando Vacas, leading to a transformation in his sound that would define his later works. Adopting the moniker Carlos Sadness in 2011 marked a new chapter in his career, highlighted by the release of his EP Atraes a los Relámpagos (2011), which solidified his place in the indie-pop scene. His subsequent albums, including Ciencias Celestes (2012) and La Idea Salvaje (2015), showcased a blend of indie, tropical, and pop influences, earning him spots at major Spanish festivals and critical acclaim. 2018 saw the release of the album Diferentes Tipos de Luz, and in 2020 he followed it up with Tropical Jesus, both pushing his popularity and overall profile to a higher level. Carlos Sadness's unique approach to music and artistry extends beyond his albums to illustrations and books; his illustration work, notably for his 2018 album Diferentes Tipos de Luz, earned him a Latin Grammy. In 2024, Carlos Sadness released the album Realismo Mágico, featuring collaborations with Ximena Sariñana and Carla Morrison.
