Caroline Polachek, born on June 20, 1985 in New York City, U.S.A, is an American singer, producer, and songwriter known for her indie pop sound and unique musical style. Raised in Connecticut, she co-founded the band Chairlift while studying at the University of Colorado. The duo emerged from the late-2000s Brooklyn music scene with the sleeper hit "Bruises," which gained them considerable recognition. After Chairlift disbanded in 2017, Polachek pursued a solo career under the monikers Ramona Lisa and CEP. In 2019, Polachek released her debut single under her full name, "Door," followed by two singles, "Ocean of Tears" and "Parachute," from her then-upcoming studio album Pang, which was released on October 18. The album was well received, and its lead single, "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings," garnered attention for its avant-pop sound. In 2021, Polachek released "Bunny Is a Rider," which received critical acclaim and was ranked at the top of Pitchfork's The 100 Best Songs of 2021. She also released the single "Billions" in 2022 ahead of "Welcome to My Island" announcing her second studio album under her full name, Desire, I Want to Turn Into You, which was released on February 14, 2023. The album was met with critical acclaim and included hit songs "Billions," "Sunset,"and "Welcome to My Island." Throughout her career, Polachek has collaborated with several artists, including Beyoncé, Christine and the Queens, Charli XCX and Travis Scott, firmly establishing herself as a highly regarded artist in the music industry.
