Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças, aka Céu, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter in the música popular brasileira tradition who has achieved international acclaim with several albums and a pair of Latin Grammy Awards. Born in São Paulo to a musical family, she studied music theory and began to perform professionally as a teenager. She had a stint in New York City where she worked with Brazilian musician Antônio Pinto. Her 2007 eponymous debut album was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Contemporary World Music Album and topped Billboard's World Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts, went to number two on the Independent Albums Chart and number 57 on the Billboard 200. EP 'Cangote' in 2009 peaked at number eleven on the World Chart and later that year the album 'Vagarosa' peaked at number three. 'Caravana Sereia' (2012) hit number eleven on the World Chart and 'Tropix' (2016) went to number nine. Her 2019 schedule included appearances in England, Germany, Austria and Sweden.
