Based in London, England, chamber music group Chiaroscuro Quartet was formed in 2005 and is best known using the period techniques of the composers of the baroque period to the beginning of romanticism. Comprised of four musicians of different nationalities – violinists Alina Ibragimova (Russia) and Pablo Hernán Benedí (Spain), violist Emilie Hörnlund (Sweden), and cellist Claire Thirion (France) – the four members met while attending the Royal College of Music in London. While the quartet came together in 2005, each of the members pursued their own careers before coming back together in 2011 and issuing the album Mozart - Schubert. They followed that album with the award-winning albums Beethoven – Mozart (2013) and Mozart - Mendelssohn (2015). The Chiaroscuro Quartet performed shows around the world before signing a new deal with label Bis Records. Their recorded output included recording works by Joseph Haydn divided into four parts: Sun Quartets, Op. 20 Nos. 1-3 (2016), Sun Quartets Op. 20 Nos. 4-6 (2017), String Quartets, Op. 76 Nos. 1-3 (2020), and String Quartets, Op. 76 Nos. 4-6 (2021). They also released Schubert: String Quartets Nos. 14 & 9 (2018), Beethoven: String Quartets, Op. 18 Nos. 1-3 (2021) and Beethoven: String Quartets, Op. 18 Nos. 4-6 (2022). In 2022, the Chiaroscuro Quartet released The Prussian Quartets, which spotlighted a cycle of string quartets composed by Mozart.
