Chloe x Halle is an R&B duo made up of sisters Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey. Chloe Bailey was born on July 1, 1998; Halle Bailey was born on March 27, 2000. They were both born in Atlanta, Georgia, but raised in Mableton. They moved to Los Angeles, California in 2012, and soon started picking up acting jobs in films such as the Disney Channel original movie Let It Shine (2012). The group started playing music when they were 10 and 8 and started uploading material to their YouTube channel. Their songs started to get attention, and they were soon booked to appear on The Ellen Show. Chloe x Halle also competed in the singing contest The Next Big Thing, and were the winners of the fifth season. Their YouTube videos and TV appearances earned the group much acclaim, and they released an EP titled Uncovered in September 2013. American singer Beyoncé Knowles caught wind of the sisters’ work, and she signed them to her management company Parkwood Entertainment. The duo appeared on Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade (2016), and even accepted the BET Award for Viewer’s Choice on her behalf. Chloe x Halle’s EP Sugar Symphony was released on April 29th, 2016. Notably, the duo performed at the White House Easter Egg Roll, introduced by Michelle Obama. In 2017, the pair released their mixtape The Two of Us, which was listed as part of Rolling Stone magazine’s Best R&B Albums of 2017 list. The duo would then release their debut studio album The Kids Are Alright in 2018, which garnered critical and fan acclaim. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards, for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album. Chloe x Halle released their second full-length album Ungodly Hour in June 2020. The album debuted at Number 16 on the Billboard 200 and garnered extensive praise from critics, receiving nominations for Best Progressive R&B Album, Best R&B Song, and Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
