Code Kunst

Taking his stage name from the German word for art ("kunst"), South Korean beatmaker and composer Code Kunst pays homage to his knack for making art through sound while highlighting the visual inspirations behind his music-making. Born Jo Sung-woo in Incheon, South Korea on 18 December 1989, Sung-woo served in the military before pressing forward with his music career. He released his debut album, Novel, in 2014 and dropped his second album, Crumple—which charted at Number 34 on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart—the following year. The album showcased an array of guests, including Car, the Garden on "Love Scene" and WUTAN on "Rap Concert Intro," establishing Code Kunst's signature vocal chopping and looping techniques. He joined the HIGHGRND label team in September 2015 and released his third album, Muggle's Mansion, in February 2017. The following year, his career moved over to the small screen when he became a judge on Korean hip-hop survival show Show Me the Money 777, the following year joining the cast of audition program Signhere. He was nominated in the Best Producer category at the Korean Hip-Hop Awards in 2019 and 2020 saw the release of his fourth studio album People. The following year, he was named Producer of the Year at the Korean Hip-hop Awards. His fifth studio LP Remember Archive arrived in 2023 and yielded several singles including "Circle" featuring Crush and "Jumper" featuring Gaeko and Mino.
