Cotoba is a South Korean math rock band that formed in Seoul in 2018. The band's name derives from the Japanese word "cotoba," meaning "word, language." Initially consisting of Dafne, Dyon Joo, Hyerim, and Minsuh, Cotoba released their debut EP Form of Tongue in 2019. In 2020, Cotoba gained attention with popular videos on Naver Onstage and was selected for the Glastonbury Festival, though it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Undeterred, Cotoba released their second EP, Name of the Seasons, on June 30, 2020. The EP featured the standout track "Reyn," which was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 2021 Korean Music Awards, highlighting the band's growing acclaim within the industry. Continuing their momentum, they released another EP in 2021 titled Since the World is About to End, praised for its narrative-driven songwriting and evocative compositions. The year 2022 marked a period of transition for Cotoba. Members Marker and Euphemia left the band, making way for new members Sei and Minsuh. With this refreshed lineup, Cotoba released their first full-length studio album, 4pricøt, which further showcased their evolving sound and artistic growth. Their participation in the EBS Hello Rookie Contest brought them additional recognition, and in 2023, they were honored as the Super Rookie at the Pentaport Rock Festival.
