Born on January 24, 1983, Immanuel Vasanth Dinakaran, better known as D. Imman, is a prominent Indian film composer and singer primarily working in Tamil cinema. He embarked on his musical journey at the age of 15, apprenticing under music composers Mahesh Mahadevan and Adithyan, playing the keyboard. During this period, his talents caught the attention of television serial producer Kutty Padmini, who gave him opportunities to work on the theme song and background music for the drama Krishnadasi in 2000. This opened doors for him in the television circuit, leading to more music scoring opportunities on shows like Mandhira Vaasal (2002) and Kolangal (2003). Padmini also offered him the chance to compose music for his first feature film, Kaadhale Swasam, which led to further work on popular film Thamizhan (2002). Continuing to gain momentum with individual song hits like “Azhagiya Asura” from Whistle, (2003) Imman went on to compose for Sundar C's masala film Giri (2004), receiving appreciation from both town and rural audiences for the song “Dai Kaiyaa Vechukittu.” The success of his work in Prabhu Solomon's Mynaa (2010) led to more significant offers, and he collaborated with Prabhu Solomon for the rest of his romantic film trilogy, earning acclaim for his work in Kumki (2012) and Kayal (2014), earning him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award, Filmfare Award, Vijay Award, Edison Award, and Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards for Best Music Director. His collaboration with director Suseenthiran resulted in positive reviews for his work on Pandianadu (2013) and Jeeva (2014) and in 2019, Imman composed for the blockbuster Viswasam (2019), earning him the National Film Award for Best Music Direction and SIIMA Award for Best Music Director. He also worked as a music composer for several films with Actor Sivakarthikeyan, most notably Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Imman’s 50th film, which earned him the Vijay Award for Favourite Song for his work on the song “Oodha Coloru Ribbon.” Between 2020 and 2023, he contributed to myriad films including Seeru (2020), Udanpirappe (2021), Etharkkum Thunindhavan (2022), and Kazhuvethi Moorkkan (2023). In 2023, his track “Munnal Kadhali” from 2016 film Miruthan once again received international attention, charting in the top 100 in Malaysia.
