Dan Croll

Hailing from the rural Staffordshire town of Newcastle-under-Lyme, singer-songwriter Dan Croll (born July 18th, 1990) first made his mark on the British alternative music scene as a graduate of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and a mentee of Sir Paul McCartney’s. Championed by independent label Communion Music from the outset, he first appeared on the label’s 2012 compilation New Faces before making his official debut via Turn First Records with “From Nowhere” later the same year. Garnering praise from indie music tastemakers and blogs alike, the song ultimately went on to amass tens of millions of streams. Continuing to attract a loyal fanbase with his follow-up singles, Croll enjoyed widespread exposure thanks to the inclusion of “Compliment Your Soul” on the best-selling football game FIFA 14 and Baardsen’s electronic remix of “From Nowhere” in Grand Theft Auto V. Promptly thereafter, he returned with his long-awaited debut album, the folk-tinged Sweet Disarray, which was released through Universal in March 2014. Peaking at number 26 on the UK Albums Chart, it marked a career highlight for Croll, who parted ways with his label the following year and returned to Communion. His sophomore LP, Emerging Adulthood, arrived in 2017. Marking a shift toward a more electronic indie rock sound, the album received mixed reviews, ultimately failing to chart. Again redefining his musical identity after a move to Los Angeles, Croll returned in 2020 with the critically acclaimed Grand Plan, which took audible cues from the classic work of the Beatles as well as the burgeoning folktronica scene.
