Danny Byrd

Born on 4 May 1979 in Bath, Somerset, Danny Byrd is an English house DJ, record producer, and musician whose forward-looking sound has made him a true pioneer in the UK electronic music scene, particularly known for his contributions to the drum'n'bass sub-genre liquid funk. As one of the first artists to sign to the nascent Hospital Records at the turn of the millennium, he became known for his eclectic mix of house, drum and bass, and funk-infused grooves, earning a reputation as one of the most influential and innovative figures in contemporary dance music. His musical journey began early, with a deep love for both electronic music and traditional musicianship. His background as a musician, with roots in jazz, funk, and soul, set the stage for his unique fusion of live instrumentation and electronic production. This blend of influences led him to pursue a career as a producer and DJ, where he quickly made his mark on the underground scene before going on to gain mainstream recognition. With his groundbreaking debut album Supersized (2008) on Hospital Records, he established himself as one of the standout talents in the UK’s drum and bass and house music scenes. His unique ability to merge intricate, rolling basslines with catchy melodies and high-energy beats set him apart from his contemporaries and releases such as his second studio album Rave Digger (2010) and his 2012 Blaze link-up with General Levy, continued to draw in a crowd. A prolific producer and DJ, he has continued to put out releases regularly, including 2018's mammoth Atomic Funk LP. He signed with Ministry of Sound in 2021 and went on to notch up jungle and drum'n'bass-adjacent releases such as the 2023 single with Charlotte Plank, "Let U Know," and 2025's "Superstylin'" hit with Basslayerz and Sigma.
