Darkiel

Darkiel is Puerto Rican reggaeton artist who was born in the city of Lares in 1994 and who began his career at the age of nineteen uploading freestyle rap videos on social media. Darkiel's birth name is Omar Colón and the artist cites rappers such as Daddy Yankee and Don Omar as some of his primary influences. To date Colón has released over two dozen video singles and has accrued more than 40 million views of his material on YouTube. His career was given a significant boost after he won the role of young Nicky in the Netflix biopic about the life and times of US born rapper Nicky Jam. Colón stands apart from many other reggaeton performers by performing what has been dubbed "clean reggaeton" due to the artist's insistence on not reverting to explicit lyrical content. He has also distanced himself artistically from the Latin trap genre, another style of music which often features lyrical references to violence, sex and drugs usually spoken or sung in Spanish.
