Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy was born in Dublin on 13 December 1991 and grew up in Rathcoole, County Dublin. His first break came when he opened for fellow Irishman and folk singer Glen Hansard during one of his tours. He has since enjoyed a meteoric rise thanks to his popularity on music streaming services, selling out shows across Europe and the USA. In October 2019, he released his first studio album and major-label debut Without Fear, which contained the hit single "Outnumbered" as well as standout track "Power Over Me", and the following January was nominated for international male solo artist of the year at the BRIT Awards. In 2021, he added his take on Metallica classic "Nothing Else Matters" to the charity tribute album The Metallica Blacklist and unleashed his sophomore album Sonder the following year. In March 2022, he won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2021 for "Better Days", which was written in February 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
