Diane Dufresne

Born on September 30, 1944 in Montreal, Canada, Diane Dufresne is a pop singer from Quebec. She moved to Paris in 1962 to study singing. She made her debut in the boîtes à chansons in 1965. In 1969, she took part in the show Les Girls, with Clémence DesRochers. In the fall of 1972, she released her first album, Tiens-Toé Ben, J'Arrive, with which she scored her first radio hits with the songs " En écoutant Elton John ", " J'ai rencontré l'homme de ma vie " and the title track. The 1970s saw the release of À Part de d'Ça J'Me Sens Ben / Opéra Cirque in 1973, Sur La Même Longueur d'Ondes in 1975, Mon Premier Show in 1976, Maman Si Tu M'Voyais Tu S'Raisière de Ta Fille in 1977 and Strip Tease in 1979. During this decade, she reached the top 10 of the charts with " Chanson pour Elvis ", " Les Hauts et les bas d'une hôtesse de l'air ", " Rock pour un gars d'bicycle " and " Sur la même longueur d'ondes ". In 1978 and 1979, Diane Dufresne took part in the musical Starmania , playing the character of Stella Spot light. On August 16, 1984, she became the first Quebecker to give a concert at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, in front of a crowd of 55,000. Her hits of the 1980s include " Alys en cinémascope ", " La Dernière enfance ", " Oxygène " and " Un Souvenir heureux ". In 2002, she received the insignia of Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Québec. In 2005, she presented an album and a show devoted to German composer Kurt Weill with the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal. In July 2008, she was awarded the Légion d'honneur by the French Republic. In 2018, Diane Dufresne presents the album Meilleur Après. She is inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
