A German indie-pop band from Hamburg, Die Sterne reached a commercial peak around the turn of the century, when albums like 1999's Wo ist hier and 2002's Irres Licht both became Top 40 hits in Germany. Singer/guitarist Frank Spilker had initially launched Die Sterne as a side project in 1987. The subsequent arrival of bassist Thomas Wenzel and drummer Christoph Leich in 1991 marked the band's official formation. After signing record deal with the German label L'Age D'Or shortly thereafter, the group released a debut album, Wichtig, in 1993, followed by In echt in 1994. 1996's Posen became Die Sterne's first release appear on the German Music Chart, and Von allen Gedanken schätze ich doch am meisten die interessanten reached Number 43 in 1997, narrowly missing the Top 40. Two years later, Wo ist hier climbed to Number 27, giving Die Sterne its first taste of Top 40 success. Irres Licht reached Number 36 in 2006. Although the band's commercial success waned slightly during the following years, Die Sterne remained active, releasing four albums — including 2012's Für Anfänger, 2014's Flucht in die Flucht, and 2020's self-titled Die Sterne — between 2010 and 2020. With Die Sterne's original lineup intact, the band continued to record new material during the 2020s, as well, beginning with Hallo Euphoria in 2022.
