Born Stefan Kozalla in Flensburg, Schlewig-Holstein, Germany, DJ Koze got his start in the 1990s with the German hip-hop group Fischmob. He tasted success with the album Power in 1998 before disappearing. DJ Koze then turned to house music with the album Music Is Okay in 2000. In 2002, DJ Koze embarked on the International Pony project, which attracted attention in Germany and the Netherlands. Also signing Adolf Noise, DJ Koze remixes for Chicks on Speed, Bob Sinclar and many German artists. All People Is My Friends in 2004 did much to raise his international profile. The German DJ followed this up with the impeccable Kosi Comes Around in 2005. DJ Koze continues to share his playful vision of house with Amygdala in 2013, featuring collaborations with Matthew Dear, Caribou and Apparat. In 2015, DJ Koze delivers his volume in the DJ-Kicks compilation series. Founder of the Pampa Records label, he featured his artists on the Pampa Vol. 1 compilation in 2016 and released his third album Knock Knock two years later, with contributions from José Gonzalez, Sophia Kennedy, Roisin Murphy, Kurt Wagner and Speech. Several singles followed the return of the Covid-19 pandemic, before the 2025 release of Music Can Hear Us, this time with collaborations from Damon Albarn, Sopa&Skin, Ada and Markus Acher of The Notwist.
