Led by frontwoman Dodo Gad, Dodo and the Dodos are one of the best-selling Danish bands in history. The group was formed in 1986 by Gad, Jens Rud, Steen Christiansen, Lars Thorup, and Anders Valbro. Before releasing any original material as a band, three members of the Dodos' lineup — Gad, Rud, and Christiansen — appeared on the hit single "Re-Sepp-Ten," which appeared in 1986 to commemorate the Danish football team's participation in the FIFA World Cup. The song became a Top 5 hit in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and its success was followed by Dodo and the Gads' self-titled debut album in 1987. Dodo & The Dodos 2 followed in 1988, and the band focused on English-language material with 1989's Dodo & The Dodos, Engelsksproget Album. Those three records yielded a number of hit singles, including "Vågner i natten," "Sømand af verden," "Vi gør det vi ka' li," "Lev livet nu," and "Pigen med det røde hår." Dodo and the Gads remained active during the early-1990s, releasing Dodo & The Dodos 3 in 1990 and Dodo & The Dodos 4 in 1992. Making the most of her association with the national sports community, singer Dodo Gad recorded another song for Denmark's football team, "Vi vil ha' sejren i land," in 1998. A decade later, the entire band joined her for Dodo and the Dodos 6, followed shortly thereafter by one final football-themed song, "Ren Fysik & Kærlighed," in 2009. The group remained an active presence on the Danish touring circuit during the following decade, and "Re-Sepp-Ten" enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in 2012, when the Danish team's participation in the Euro Cup 2012 helped push the song to Number 24 on the national singles chart.
