Born "Chloe Celeste Hosterman" on January 15th, 1996, in Bainbridge Island, Washington, Dove Cameron was one of many teenaged actors to capitalize on their acting celebrity by launching a parallel career in the music business. She was initially known for playing both lead characters in the Disney teen sitcom Liv and Maddie, a series that was successful upon its launch in 2013. To launch her pop career, Dove Cameron chose to record a number of cover versions by artists such as Imagine Dragons and Christina Aguilera, as well as perform songs from the various TV and film productions she had worked on. The strategy was effective, with the 2015 soundtrack album Liv and Maddie: Music from the TV Series reaching number 3 on Billboard's Kid Albums chart. Meanwhile, a role in the TV series Descendants boosted Cameron's appeal, and two of the songs from the series (including the gold-certified "If Only") made it into the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut EP, Bloodshot / Waste, was released in 2019, and the following year she was named "Favorite Movie Actress" at the Kids' Choice Awards. 2020 saw her release a pair of new singles, "We Belong" and "Remember Me" with Bia, and 2021 marked the arrival of "LazyBaby," which she described as her "breakthrough song". In 2022, she took her career up a notch with the release of statement-making anthem "Boyfriend", which went viral on Internet, earned a platinum certification, and reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Boyfriend" served as the anchor track on Dove Cameron's solo debut, Alchemical: Vol. 1, which followed in late 2023.
