Fronted by Iceland native Rakel Mjöll, Dream Wife is a British band known for their combination of contemporary punk-pop and indie rock. Singer Mjöll, guitarist Alice Go, and bassist Balla Podpadec formed the band in Brighton, London, in 2016, with drummer Alex Paveley joining Dream Wife's touring operation two years later. The band's 2018 performance at the Lollapalooza music festival won Dream Wife a good deal of international acclaim from publications like Rolling Stone and Billboard, as did Dream Wife — a self-titled debut record that reached Number 60 in the UK — that same year. Featuring singles like "Let's Make Out," "Fire," and "Hey Heartbreaker," Dream Wife was followed by a sophomore release, So When You Gonna…, in 2020. So When You Gonna… marked the band's commercial peak, hitting Number 18 in the UK, Number 2 on the UK Independent Albums chart, and Number 5 on the Scottish Albums Chart. Three years later, "Hot (Don't Date a Musician)" marked the band's first release from Dream Wife's third album, Social Lubrication. Released that June, Social Lubrication was produced by the band's own guitarist, Alice Go, and reached Number 73 in the UK and Number 19 in Scotland.
