Einstürzende Neubauten is a band from Germany founded in 1980. The formation is known for its experimental musical style and unusual selection of musical instruments. In the early days, the band consisted of Blixa Bargeld, N. U. Unruh, FM Einheit, Mark Chung and Alexander Hacke. Einstürzende Neubauten made some of their instruments themselves from scrap metal or everyday objects. In the early days, their music moved between punk and post-industrial. Their early songs are characterized by enervating repetition and noise. The first album titles such as Stahlmusik (1980), Kollaps (1981) or Zeichnungen des Patienten O. T. (1983) underline their very peculiar musical orientation. Einstürzende Neubauten remained true to their brute style until the early 1990s. Their musical reorientation began in 1993 with the album Tabula rasa. The longplayer made it into the German charts for the first time at number 38. The songs seem more harmonious and calmer, but remain abstract. Further albums followed, including Ende Neu (1996), Silence Is Sexy (2000), Perpetuum Mobile (2004) and Alles Wieder Offen (2007). From the 2000s onwards, Einstürzende Neubauten took a new approach to marketing their records. In 2002, the band launched the Supporters Project. Fans pay money to the band. The band returns the favor with exclusive songs and albums. New studio albums are also released regularly. In 2014, the band released the album Lament. In 2017, Einstürzende Neubauten play at the opening festival of the new Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg. A new studio album, Alles in Allem, follows three years later. In April 2024, Einstürzende Neubauten released another album, Rampen. The longplayer climbs into the German top 10 at number 5.
