Ellende

Ellende is an Austrian post-black metal project that was founded by Lukas Gosch (L.G.) in Graz in 2011. Originally started as a solo project, Ellende developed into a live project with session-based musicians from 2012 onwards. L.G. is responsible for the entire composition and plays all the instruments in the studio himself, while the live performances are supported by a permanent line-up, including P.F. (drums), L.B. and D.B. (guitar) and S.L. (bass). Musically, Ellende moves in the realm of ambient and post-black metal, with the themes of the lyrics revolving around nature, melancholy and existentialism. The band's name is derived from a Middle High German adjective meaning "from the land" or "in exile", reflecting the often melancholic and sombre mood of the music. Famous releases include the self-titled debut album Ellende (2013), followed by Todbringer (2016), Lebensnehmer (2019) and Ellenbogengesellschaft (2022), which reached number 31 in the charts in Germany. The EP Triebe (2021) was also well received. The next album Todbringerin was released in September 2024 and reached number 37 in Germany.
