Emma Anderson

Singer and guitarist with the band Lush from 1987 to 2016, Emma Anderson then turned to a solo career. Born in Wimbledon, near London, on June 10, 1967, she joined The Rover Girls as bassist in 1986, before meeting Miki Berenyi, with whom she founded the fanzine Alphabet Soup and formed the band Lush. Over the course of the 1990s, the latter became a major figure in the shoegaze style, tinged with dream pop, with the albums Spooky (1992), Split (1994) and Lovelife (1996). In 1997, while Lush's activities were put on hold, she formed the duo Sing-Sing with Lisa O'Neill, who produced two albums until their separation in 2008. Returning to Lush for an EP in 2015, Emma Anderson then embarked on a solo career with the album Pearlies (2023), featuring keyboardist/producer James Chapman and Suede guitarist Richard Oakes. The following year, the album was remixed in its entirety as Spiralée (Pearlies Reimagined), with contributions from Julia Holter, LoneLady, Deary, Daniel Hunt, Memorials and The Orielles, among others.
