Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore originally met in Sydney, Australia in 2000 and talked of putting together a band, though it took eight years to materialise. Steele, the son of a blues musician, was living in Perth at the time singing and playing guitar in The Sleepy Jackson. Based in Sydney, Nick Littlemore was also busy in a dance duo called Pnau with Peter Mayes so the project was put on the back burner for several years. In 2007 Littlemore invited Steele, to work with him on a track: "With You Forever" for a new Pnau album and they enjoyed the collaboration so much they decided to revive the idea of an electronic duo, named Empire Of The Sun. Their first single "Walking On A Dream" was a top ten hit and their triple platinum 2008 debut album of the same name, established them worldwide. They performed at festivals all over the world, making their name in much of Europe. Their sophomore album Ice on the Dune appeared in March, 2013, landing them at number 3 on the Australian charts led by the moderately successful single “Alive” which peaked at number 22. In 2016, they released, Two Vines, which went to number 7, which spawned the tracks “High and Low” and “Way to Go.” After a lengthy hiatus, the band returned in 2024 with new track "Music on the Radio," followed by their first album release in eight years, titled Ask That God.
