A French footballer with an international career, Éric Cantona has turned to film and song. Born in Marseille on May 24, 1966, he began his career as a professional footballer with AJ Auxerre in 1981 and joined the French national team the following year, before building up a fine record of achievements over the following decade with Olympique de Marseille and Manchester United, before retiring at the age of thirty in 1997. Notorious for his controversial stances, Cantona turned to beach soccer, winning the World Championship in 2005, and then to film and song. He has appeared in numerous feature films, TV series and TV movies, from Le Bonheur est dans le pré (1995) to the lead role in the series Le Voyageur (2019), including his own role in Ken Loach's Looking for Eric (2009). The former footballer also appeared on stage and in commercials, before turning to song, following in the footsteps of his wife Rachida Brakni. Following contributions to Brakni's albums, he recorded the EP I'll Make My Own Heaven (2023) and embarked on a tour featuring songs from the album Cantona Sings Eric - First Tour Ever (2024), which reached No. 90 in France.
