Born in Rodez, France, on October 13, 1972, singer/songwriter Gaëtan Roussel built his reputation as the lead singer of Louise Attaque and Tarmac before launching a solo career with 2010's gold-certified Ginger. After attending high school in Montargis, he moved to Paris with bass player Robin Feix. The two musicians formed Louise Attaque in 1994, rounding out the lineup with violinist Arnaud Samuel and drummer Alexandre Margraff. Released in 1997, the band's self-titled debut album became the best-selling rock album in French history, selling a record-breaking 2.5 million copies in France and winning Louise Attaque the Victoires de la Musique award for Band of the Year. Gaëtan Roussel and Arnaud Samuel formed a side project called Tarmac in 2000, following the release of Louise Attaque's chart-topping sophomore release, Comme on a dit. Gaëtan Roussel continued to record with both bands throughout the early 2000s, then collaborated with Alain Bashung on the iconic French rocker's final album, Bleu pétrole. Released in 2008, the platinum-selling Bleu Pétrole was largely written and produced by Gaëtan Roussel, resulting in both critical acclaim and commercial success. Bashung passed away in 2009, and Gaëtan Roussel released his first solo record the following year. Entitled Ginger, the album featured the Number 4 single "Help Myself (Nous ne faisons que passer)" and won three awards at the Victoires de la Musique in 2011, including Album of the Year. A second solo album, Orpailleur, was released in 2013. Gaëtan Roussel then teamed up with actress Rachida Brakni to form the blues-rock duo Lady Sir. The band released Accidentally Yours in 2017. The frontman resumed his solo career with 2018's Trafic and 2021's Est-Ce Que Tu Sais ?, the latter of which was preceded by the 2020 single "Tu ne savais pas."
