Matthieu Chedid

In an effort to overcome stagefright and distance himself from his famous father Louis Chedid, the chronically shy French singer Matthieu Chedid performs under the stage name '-M-'. Notwithstanding his unsuccessful attempts to avoid the limelight, Chedid's unusual style of music has a loyal following in his native France - popular enough to sell half a million copies of his second album 'Je Dis Aime' taking it to number eleven on the French Album Charts. International exposure followed the success of 'Je Dis Aime' when Chedid recorded the song 'Belleville Rendezvous' for the soundtrack of Sylvain Chomet's 'Triplets of Belleville'. The song was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003 and the accompanying video for the track featured Chedid incorporated into animated footage from the film. His 2009 album 'Mister Mystère', which topped the French Album Charts, was followed by 'Îl' in 2012 and the collaborative 'Lamomali' in 2017 which featured Toumani Diabaté and Sidiki Diabaté. As well as his solo work Chedid has recorded with artists such as Johnny Halliday, Vanessa Paradis, and Sean Lennon.
