Jean-Louis Aubert

Iconic leader of the group Téléphone for ten years, singer, guitarist and songwriter Jean-Louis Aubert has made a successful solo transition from rock to chanson. Born in Nantua (Ain) on April 12, 1955, he grew up in Paris, where he met guitarist Louis Bertignac in high school. A few years later, Aubert and Bertignac formed the group Téléphone, whose success spread beyond rock'n'roll with five albums, until they split up two years after Un Autre Monde (1984). It was with the group's drummer, Richard Kolinka, that Jean-Louis Aubert launched his career with the album Plâtre et Ciment (1987), released under the title Aubert 'n' Ko. His name alone appears on the covers of subsequent albums Bleu Blanc Vert (1992), H (1993) and Stockholm (1994, No. 2), all of which went on to win gold discs and a loyal following of fans. Alternating rock songs and ballads form the backbone of Jean-Louis Aubert's albums, on which, between successful tours, he records Comme Un Accord (2001, No. 9), the duet "Sur la route" with Raphaël (2003, No. 29), Idéal Standard (2005, No. 3), Premières Prises (2009, No. 16), featuring acoustic versions of his repertoire, and Roc' Éclair (2012, No. 2), for which he received his first solo Victoire de la musique award, after the one he won with Téléphone (1985). In 2014, he teamed up with writer Michel Houellebecq, who penned the poetic lyrics for the album Jean-Louis Aubert Chante Houellebecq - Les Parages du Vide (No. 2). The following year, three members of Téléphone reunited under the name Les Insus? for a nationwide tour, followed by a live album. Promoted to the rank of Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2015, Aubert went on to record the double album Refuge (2019, no. 5) alone (apart from the brass and strings). After the Covid-19 pandemic and open-heart surgery in 2020, the singer returned to the stage for his twelfth tour, resulting in his fifth solo live album, Olo Tour (2022). Back in the studio in 2024, he released "Merveille", the first single from the dreamlike album Pafini, which reached number three in the album charts on its release.
