Eric Johanson

Blues rock guitarist, singer and composer Eric Johanson was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. In 2001, he joined the alternative rock band Cire, which moved to New Zealand after the trauma of Hurricane Katrina, then split up after a third album. In the meantime, Eric Johanson took the pseudonym Emptyself and released an electronically-inflected album of the same name in 2005, followed by Nothing Follows, Nothing Says in 2011. The guitarist returned under his own name in 2017 with Burn It Down, produced by Tab Benoit and released on Whiseky Bayou Records. The two musicians went on tour together, then Johanson signed with Nola Blue Records for the album Blues in My Blood, in collaboration with Tiffany Pollack in 2019, followed by Below Sea Level in 2021. Two albums of covers follow, before the release of Live at DBA: New Orleans Bootleg in 2022. Under contract to Ruf Records, Eric Johanson records the albums The Deep and the Dirty (2023), then Live in Mississippi (2025).
