Singer-songwriter Jean-Louis Mougeot, aka François Valéry, was born on August 4, 1954 in Oran, Algeria. Jean-Louis Mougeot studied guitar and music theory at the Conservatoire before going on to study music at the University of Marseille. At the age of twenty, he met Mike Brant's agent, and took his pseudonym in reference to the two candidates in the 1974 presidential election, François Mitterrand and Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. He released his first single on the Disc'AZ label, "Une Chanson d'Été ", the same year, and his first video clip was shown on television. Une Chanson d'Été", a romantic song, was featured on his first album, Dînons ce soir en amoureux , released in 1977. In the same vein, the following year he released Chanteur pour les filles de 16 ans. 1981 saw the release of the hit "Emmanuelle ", on the album of the same name, and the same year he sold 600,000 copies of his eponymous album, thanks to the track "Dream in blue", a duet with Sophie Marceau. In 1983, "Elle danse Marie " proved a big hit. Her greatest success came in 1989 with "Aimons-nous vivants ", which kept her busy on television for several months. The artist was at the peak of his career, having produced several film soundtracks and written for others, including "Mama Mia " for Patrick Fiori. But in 1998, his musical L'Ombre d'un géant was not a success, and the artist went into debt, finding himself at the heart of a number of legal disputes. He returned to the stage in 2013 as part of the Âge tendre et têtes de bois tour, bringing together stars from the 1970s and 1980s. 2014 saw the release of Je suis venu te dire, supported by the single "Nos DJ Font Danser Le Monde (J'Avais Oublié)" .
