FUNKY MONKEY BΛBY'S

Japan's Funky Monkey Babys formed in Hachiōji, Tokyo in 2004 and mostly maintained a hip-hop sound throughout their nine years as a group. Comprising MCs Funky Kato (ファンキー加藤) – MC and Mon-kichi (モン吉) and DJ Chemical (DJケミカル), the trio released their heir first single, "Sono Manma Higashi He," in 2005 and their debut self-titled album for Dreamusic Incorporated in 2006. The following year, the band rose to prominence for their 2007 single "Lovin' Life." The sequel to Funky Monkey Babys arrived later that year – reaching the Top 10 in Japan – with the third volume landing two years later. In 2010, the band – who are known for having celebrities appear in their videos and cover art – released their greatest hits album Funky Monkey Babys Best, which shot to the top of Japan's Oricon weekly charts. They released the fourth volume of Funky Monkey Babys in December 2011 but decided to quit in November 2012 and performed their last live shows as a group at the Tokyo Dome in June 2013.
