Interchangeably known as Gary Cao, Cao Ge, and Cao Ge, Gary Chaw is an award-winning Mandopop artist and songwriter. He was born in Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia, on July 9, 1979. Educated in Canada and New Zealand, he wrote songs for artists like Aaron Kwok before launching his solo career with 2001's 曹格同名專輯. The follow-up albums Blue and Superman both followed in 2006, earning Chaw commercial success and critical acclaim. He was named "Best New Male Artist" at the Hong Kong TVB8 Awards that year, then received a nomination for "Best Male Mandarin Singer" at the 18th Golden Melody Awards in 2007. One year later, Chaw released Super Sunshine, a popular album that won him the award of "Best Male Mandarin Singer" at the 19th Golden Melody Awards. He starred in his first movie, Ice Kacang Puppy Love, in 2010 and remained a staple of popular culture throughout Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia during the decade's remainder. Records like 2011's Sensation, 2012's Hollywood Zoo, and 2019's Super Junior maintained his place on the Mandopop charts, while appearances on shows like I Am A Singer 2, The Masked Singer, and Where Are We Going, Dad? Introduced him to TV audiences, as well. He then began a new decade with 2020's "永遠不分離," followed by the single "Bei Pan" in 2022.
