Gazo is a Guinean-French rapper from Seine-Saint-Denis. After two stints in juvenile detention centers at the age of 17, he started rapping over trap beats under the pseudonym Bramsou. Shortly after, the young MC discovered drill, a hip-hop subgenre native to Chicago’s South Side, and changed his alias to Gazo, making his debut with a series of freestyles entitled Drill FR in 2019 and 2020. The tracks proved hugely successful, as Gazo went on to collaborate with established rappers such as Freeze Corleone and Hamza on further instalments of the series, accumulating millions of streams across platforms. Other singles released during 2020 include “LSD,” “Acte de Burberry,” and “Baby” with Ismo Z17. Following a couple of guest spots on Kaaris’ “Five-O” and Gims’ “Oro Jackson,” Gazo signed with Epic Records France for his 2021 debut mixtape, also titled Drill FR. With a star-studded lineup including Hache-P, Tiakola, Luciano, Franglish, Landy, Hamza, Unknown T, and Pa Salieu, the record spawned the ubiquitous single “A$AP” and cemented Gazo’s status as a heavyweight of French drill.
