Gigi Leung (March 25, 1976) is a singer and actress from Hong Kong. Born Leung Wing-kei in Sai Ying Pun, British Hong Kong, she studied graphic design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and was discovered by film director Lee Chi-ngai, who offered her a supporting role in his 1995 film, Doctor Mack. She would also appear in the director's next film, Full Throttle, which earned her a nomination for Best Newcomer at the 1995 Hong Kong Film Awards. Since then, she has become a bonafide cultural powerhouse, starring in over 20 feature-length films and enjoying great popularity as a musical artist in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Southeast Asia. Some of her most celebrated acting roles include Tempting Heart (1999), A War Named Desire (2000), and Turn Left, Turn Right (2003). After making her music debut with the Cantonese album Love Myself in 1996, Gigi Leung went on to develop a prolific career as a singer-songwriter and lyricist, also penning hits for other artists. Even though she got her start in the Cantopop scene with releases like New Home (1997), Fireworks (2000), G for Girl (2001), and Cat Afraid of Loneliness (2010), Gigi Leung has also been active in the Mandarin-language market, delivering a string of well-received albums such as Short Hair (1997), Gigi (1998), Fresh (1999), Transparent (2001), Magical Season (2002), Sense of Belonging (2004), and Gift (2009). Capítulo, her 25th album, saw the light in 2021 and was followed by the live single "许愿 (Live版)," which climbed to Number 20 on the Chinese Pop Weibo charts in 2022.
