Götz Alsmann (born July 12, 1957 in Münster) is a musician, multi-instrumentalist and singer from Germany. He achieved great fame as the presenter of the TV show Zimmer frei! from 1996 to 2016. The multi-talented musician began taking piano lessons at the age of eight. He decided very early on to pursue a career in music. In 1973, he joined the Heupferd Jug Band. On the band's first album, Skiffle-Ragtime-Jug Band Musik 1 (1974), the then 17-year-old Götz Alsmann plays piano, mandolin and banjo. At the same time, Götz Alsmann worked as a studio musician in the Netherlands. Here, the artist played on several country and dialect music productions. Even at this time, Götz Alsmann was already sporting his unmistakable trademark: a quiff. In 1977, the musician began studying German language and literature, journalism and musicology at the University of Münster. He completed his studies with a doctorate in 1985. During his studies, he founded the band Götz Alsmann & The Sentimental Pounders in 1980. The formation, which oscillates between rockabilly, swing and calypso, celebrates an international hit with their version of the Depeche Mode hit "People Are People". In 1989, the band name changes to Götz-Alsmann-Band. The band regularly released albums from 1994 onwards. The group is awarded two Jazz Echos, the Golden Tuning Fork and numerous German Jazz Awards in gold and platinum for their work. In 2011, the Götz-Alsmann-Band launched an album city trilogy. The longplayer In Paris (2011) marks the beginning. The second part of the trilogy followed in 2014 with Am Broadway. The final album is In Rome (2017). All three albums landed in the top 30 of the German charts and achieved gold and platinum status. Parallel to his musical career, Götz Alsmann works successfully as a radio and television presenter. Since 2000, his radio show for easy listening fans Go, Götz, go!- Alsmann's radio show. In 2024, Götz Alsmann returns with a new album. Bei Nacht reaches number 8 in the top 10 of the German album charts.
