The German jazz and pop musician Roger Cicero was born Roger Marcel Cicero Ciceu on July 6, 1970 in West Berlin. His father was the jazz pianist Eugen Cicero and his mother, the dancer Lili Cziczeo. He grew up in the Grunewald district of Berlin and lost his half-sister Babette to a heroin overdose in 1977. At the age of eleven, he performed as the opening act for chanson singer Helen Vita and first appeared on television at the age of 16. At the age of 18, he studied singing, guitar and piano at the Hohner Conservatory and then went on to study jazz singing in the Netherlands. He then worked as a guest singer with Soulounge and Jazzkantine and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, among others. in 2003, the artist founded the Roger Cicero Quartet and later performed with a big band. His first solo album Männersachen was released in May 2006 with the single "Ich atme ein". The album reached the top 3 in Germany, 23rd place in Austria and 40th place in Switzerland. This was followed by the albums Beziehungsweise (2007), Artgerecht (2009), In diesem Moment (2011) and Was immer auch kommt (2014), which were able to build on the success of the first album. in 2007, Cicero represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Frauen regier'n die Welt" and took 19th place. In the same year, he performed alongside Shakira, Silbermond, Juli and Yusuf Islam at the Live Earth concert in Hamburg. After the release of his album The Roger Cicero Jazz Experience (2015), the singer died of a cerebral infarction on March 24, 2016. The album reached number 27 in Germany and number 29 in Austria. After his death, the album The English Album was released in December 2021.
