Gouap, whose real name is Julien Gouaméné, is a French rapper and beatmaker from the La Guillotière district of Lyon. Founder of RTTCLAN with his brother Mini and Noma, he is also a member of the Lyonzon collective. Influenced by the Ghetto Fabulous Gang and artists such as Gucci Mane, Gouap began recording and releasing his first freestyles in 2012. He made a name for himself on the SoundCloud platform, offering innovative sounds for the French scene at the time. His solo career began in 2016 with the Free Gouap EP series, culminating in the fifth volume in 2024. At the same time, he multiplied collaborative projects, including the Maquina EP series in 2016, 2017 and 2019 with Raaash, as well as the double-EPs Colloc Sombre with Mazoo in 2017. In 2017, he co-founded the Lyonzon collective, marking a turning point in his career."Freestyle Benibla #3" propelled the crew to the forefront of the scene, thanks in particular to Gouap's emblematic phrase: "J'aime téléphoner avec mon Sprite" ("I like to phone with my Sprite"). With his album Free Gouap 6 (2021), Gouap moves away from the trap and drill genres and towards plug, collaborating with artists such as JMK$, 8ruki and Freeze Corleone. His discography also includes Gouapo Pack (2019), Gasolina Tape (2022) and Back en trap (collaborative EP with his brother Mini, 2023).
